Calacatta

Calacatta is the stone that made Italian marble a luxury category. The ground is warmer than Statuario — ivory rather than pure white — and the veining is thick, deliberate and often carries gold and taupe alongside the grey. No two blocks read the same, which is exactly why designers specify it and exactly why it has to be bought as a block if the pattern matters.

The named selections are commercial rather than geological, and they are used loosely across the market. Calacatta Oro leans on gold veining; Borghini is denser and more contrasted. Because sellers apply these names differently, we quote against photographs of the actual material rather than the label alone.

For bookmatching or a continuous feature wall, buy the block. Slabs cut from one block sequence together; slabs bought separately, however similar they look in a yard, will not.
